Do You Take Your Dildo for Granted?
Rifling through your sex drawer you may not think twice about your dildos-but in several states in the U.S. as well as some countries around the world, selling a dildo is illegal.
Alabama is the only remaining state where it is still explicitly illegal to purchase sex toys, advertise or sell them. An adult store in Jackson, Mississippi was raided in 2008 for selling sex toys where three people were reportedly arrested and several boxes of toys were confiscated. Texas, another state that has controversially banned selling sex toys and "obscene materials" has had federal court appeals fighting for the rights to sell these products, and it was not until recently, in 2008, when the law was overturned and it became legal to buy toys.
Trojan recently began selling a Vibrating Touch Fingertip Massager, but is banned from selling them in Georgia, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Virginia, Mississippi, Texas and Alabama. There are loopholes that allow the massager to be sold in the aforementioned states, but not on the shelves where minors can see them.
India is an example of one of the few countries where it is illegal to sell or own a dildo.
How far have we come in women's rights if we do not posses the legal right to use a vibrator to enhance a natural bodily function? Why is it, in the United States of America that in Alabama men and women have to travel across state lines to be able to legally buy a vibrator? If you live in a state where you can purchase a sex toy, do not take it for granted. Think twice as to how far women have come and remember how far we need to go.
